Is a vented hob the way to go?

Published: 1 year ago

If you’re looking for a new hob for your kitchen island, the Neff venting hob is certainly a big contender to join your deliberations when designing your new kitchen. It’s an induction hob with a built-in extractor fan that can keep your kitchen fresh and clean while you cook. It sounds like a smart idea, and it is! So why is it that we have all fallen in love with the new vented hob?

Vented hobs are a fast, powerful, and elegant piece of equipment that can heat up your food quickly and evenly all while providing an excellent centrepiece for a feature island. Island hobs work so well for social families as the cook is facing the room rather than the blank wall while they cook. I love the way I can make pancakes for the children, hot from the frying pan, straight on to their plates at the breakfast bar. There is the downside; the arguing over who gets the first one or which one is bigger, but it doesn’t ruin the fun of loading them with fresh strawberries and our family favourite, chocolate spread. I now choose to place the sink on the back wall instead as I spend far less time at the sink than I do the hob. The dishwasher is now more favourable than washing the large stack of plates that awaits me every evening. Being chained to the sink has become a thing of the past.

I have enjoyed the hob in my own kitchen for the past two years and couldn’t imagine reverting back to the standard hob and hood combination. The lack of extractor opens the space benefiting most open plan living solutions. My pet hate of most induction hobs is the frustration with the touch controls. They work from reading grease on your fingers and after you have covered them in water or food items during cooking it becomes a little trickier. The twist pad fire avoids this problem using a clever piece of technology that lets you adjust the heat with a simple twist when you chose the option boasting the twist pad fire rather than rely on the standard touch features. The ring simply lifts off when cleaning is needed and moves back into position effortlessly with the help of magnetism, locking it into place. The hob has a fan that can either vent the air outside or recirculate it with filters, depending on your kitchen layout and existing floor structure.

The Neff vented hob is a great investment for your kitchen. It can save you space and give you a sleek look, as you don’t need a bulky hood over your hob. It can also save you energy and money, as it only heats up the cookware and not the surrounding area. It can make your cooking more enjoyable if you don’t mind showcasing your cooking talents and helps by automatically adjusting the extraction level based on the amount of steam detected.

You will need to budget for it, as it can cost between £1,500 and £3,000, depending on the model and size, however, when you take the accumulative cost of the regular induction hob and hood it is not too much more when you consider all the benefits it brings.

The Neff vented hob is a fantastic option for your kitchen island if you want a fast, flexible, and efficient way of cooking, while also keeping your kitchen fresh and clean,
